There are many local attractions to visit when
staying in the historical town of Childers, many of
which are listed below.

Mammino home made icecream and
macadamia nut products.
The
Mammino family home and cane farm is a popular
stopping place for travellers when visiting
Childers. Mammino's are known world wide for
their delicious rich and creamy home made ice creams
and have won numerous tourism & small business
awards. The shop also sells macadamia nut
products, honey, spreads & fudge. |

Flying High Fauna and Flora
Bird Habitat.
Covering
an area of 2 acres and reaching a height of 7
metres, many varieties of Australian parrots and
finches fly free in a natural habitat created
especially for them! Take a stroll around the
grounds and enjoy the many different species of
birds in this peaceful bush setting. |

Snakes Down Under
Your
host Ian Jenkins has been handling snakes for over
40 years. Through his presentation you will come to
understand a little more about our native reptiles
and their place in our environment. |

Childers
Pharmaceutical Museum.
The
Pharmaceutical Museum in the main street was
originally build in 1894 and retains much of the
charm of the late nineteenth century. The shop
fittings are made from cedar, there are old leather
bound prescriptions books, mortars and pestles that
are works of art and a very early cash register
dating back to 1906. |

Olde Butcher Shoppe.
Just
around the corner from the Federal Hotel (1907) is
the Olde Butcher Shoppe which, it is claimed, was
the first tiled butcher's shop outside Brisbane when
it was set up in 1896. The owner is a true enthusiast
who happily takes visitors through explaining early
butchering techniques and the history of the
building which, by luck, managed to escape the
disastrous fire of 1902. |

Soldiers Room
Memorial
At the Maryborough end of the main street there is
the Soldiers Room Memorial, a touching memorial to
the soldiers from the local area who were killed in
all the wars this century. Each soldier is honoured
with a bronze plaque and , where possible a
photograph. |

Historical Complex
Located in Taylor Street is the
Historical Complex with an impressive sugar cane
locomotive imported from England in 1916, a cottage
from Isis Central Mill which was once rented out to
mill workers for the modest sum of 2 shillings a
week, and the old Isis Central Mill School. Both
buildings contain interesting collections of local
artefacts and memorabilia. |

Isis Central Mill
It is possible to visit the Isis Central Mill
between July and November at 2.00pm Mondays-Fridays.

Play golf at the Isis
Golf Club
Enjoy a relaxing game of gold at the picturesque
Isis Golf Club located just down the road from the
Gateway Motor Inn. |

Woodgate Beach and
National Park
The beach at Woodgate is also a popular destination
for locals and visitors. There are National
Parks in the area with lots of opportunities for
bushwalking and birdwatching. |
